In February 2007 Xerox introduced the Phaser 6180 color printer for the small office / home office market, printing at 26 monochrome pages per minute (ppm) and 20 ppm in color. The MFP version followed in September, with the same color print speed but with an increased monochrome speed of 31 ppm. Both are based on the Lexmark X560 print engine also used in Dell 3110/3115 printers and Fuji-Xerox DocuPrint C3290 MFPs.

The printer and MFP versions both have an OEM-rated monthly duty cycle of 60,000 pages. Besides the usual print/copy/fax/scan capabilities the MFP also has the ability to email a scanned document without the use of a PC.

Both 6180 versions ship with standard 2,000 page yield color and 3, 000 page yield black cartridges. Replacement cartridges are available in standard yield as well as 6,000 page color and 8,000 page black high yield versions. The all-in-one cartridges are chipped, and neither the printer nor the MFP will function properly with a spent chip on or a chip missing from any cartridge. Cartridge SKUs are the same for all geographic markets.

Cartridges are physically very similar to the Dell, Lexmark and Fuji-Xerox versions, but each requires chips specific to the OEM and vary in toner fill weight and yield.

Many of the replacement components used to remanufacture Xerox Phaser 6180 printer cartridges are also used to remanufacture cartridges for Dell 3110/3130, Epson AcuLaser C2800/C3800, Fuji-Xerox C3290FS, Lexmark X560, and Xerox Phaser 6280 printers.
